Why did the customer contact us?
The customer contacted us for emergency water damage mitigation, leak inspection, and structural assessment following a failing cast-iron plumbing stack. Chronic corrosion and cracking in the main vertical drain pipe caused wastewater seepage within the kitchen wall cavity, leaking downward through the floor assembly and resulting in severe moisture staining, wall saturation, and potential mold growth in the basement storage area below.
Solutions provided:
We provided a comprehensive water damage mitigation, controlled demolition, and structural drying solution. Our technicians performed targeted drywall cutouts in the kitchen to fully expose the corroded cast-iron stack, supply lines, and surrounding structural wall studs. Downstairs in the basement, we cleared storage items away from the work zone and inspected the heavily stained drywall and concrete floor around the pipe penetration. We treated all exposed structural framing and moisture-affected surfaces with an EPA-registered antimicrobial biocide to prevent microbial growth. Finally, we deployed commercial centrifugal air movers and high-capacity LGR dehumidifiers to thoroughly dry out the wall cavities and subflooring prior to plumbing replacement and final put-back reconstruction.
